I welcome your suggestions on what I should read next. The list below is a work in progress. It shows my completed books as of January 1st 2010:
- Teacher Man by Frank McCourt (loved it, and I consider his writing modern classic lit.)
- Hotel of the Saints by Ursula Heig (interesting short stories)
- The Poe/O. Henry Prize Stories 2009 -edited by Laura Furman (best stories of 2009)
- A Reliable Wife- Robert Goolrick (raunchy commercial literature)
- My Father, Maker of Trees: How I Survived the Rowandan Genocide - Eric Irivuzumugabe (a gripping faith story)

I really recommend The Angels' Gate (just finished it). Its a long read, but twisted and oh so good. It's about a writer ...

I have finished two books in January (both started in December, does that count?):
Death Troopers (don't know author off the top of my head) - Zombies come to a galaxy far, far away. Not good zombie fiction. Not good Star Wars Expanded Universe fiction. Basically a good idea that was poorly executed. Would not recommend...
Day By Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne - As the reader, you are reading a journal of a Naval pilot as he fights for survival amidst a zombie uprising. Very compelling, if that is your cup of tea. He really captures what Romero set out to accomplish in the movie Night of the Living Dead and his works that followed - namely focus on the human reaction to the presence of the walking dead. This book is a good psychological insight into surviving under the worst of circumstances. Recommended read...

It's not supposed to count if you started in December GT, but I'll let it slide here on Dude. So, these books you've listed are totally characteristic of GT taste. I like zombies.
I just finished the book of Numbers (fourth book of the Old Testament)...does that count?
Along with Leviticus, two of the most boring books I have ever read.
And I say that as a believer. All those names! All those places! All those laws! All those numbers! Not much in the way of plot, though.
Mr. Brague, Over at i-kaye-book-blog the rule is that books of the Bible and short stories don't count, but books of the Bible should count because it's quality reading time. Aside from it being a sacred book, The Bible contains every genre and is an amazing work of literature. I agree with you, reading Leviticus is a good natural remedy for insomnia.
I think I am under so much pressure all around that I shouldn't put pressure on myself to achieve something like this! I think I would like to continue reading good, quality books at a leisurely pace.
